| What should I look for in Senior Design teammates? |
|---|
- Be able to trust their work. You won't be able to check it all; you'll have too much of your own work to do.
- Have similar course goals. If you want to shoot for an award-winning project and the others don't, you'll feel like they're letting you down. On the other hand, if you don't want to strive for greatness and your teammates do, you'll feel like they're too demanding and overbearing.
- Have diverse skill sets. You don't need a team of all-stars who can each do everything well. Instead, make sure all of the important skills are covered by at least one or two people, and assign tasks so that everyone works to their strengths.
| | What can my team do now to help us work together better when the pressure gets high later on? |
|---|
- Get together outside of Senior Design. If you're not all friends with each other to begin with (and most teams aren't), do fun things together before the semester starts. The better you get along with each other outside of class, the easier you'll be able to get through the rough patches when the full pressures of Senior Design hit.
- Schedule a team meeting with Dr. Blake Cherrington. Dr. Cherrington is part of Georgia Tech's Institute for Leadership and Entrepreneurship, and volunteers his time to assist ISyE Senior Design teams with small-group leadership and teamwork issues. (He also periodically teaches an ISyE elective on that topic.) Your conversations with Dr. Cherrington are confidential, and almost every team that meets with him finds it to be very helpful.
